James Joyce

I don't really know what to write about... But I like writing, and I don't have anything worth writing a five page rant about in my journal, so I'll post some bullshit on here.

I've been reading James Joyce lately. LOTS of James Joyce. After the Breakup that shattered all my hopes and dreams etc, I decided that I would, instead, devote my time to understanding Ulysses! I started off with Dubliners, his second book and only short story collection. Then I moved on to A Portrait, which I've read before. This time it was a DEEP reading, with plenty of scribbled notes and underlinings. After Chamber Music, his first published work and only "real" poetry collection, I started Joyce's Dubliners: Substance, Vision and Art, which is long and boring, but will hopefully help me get through Ulysses, once I finish Exiles (his only play,) a couple unofficial poetry collections, and probably a long stupid book about Portrait. And then, finally, the great Ulysses, and after that... The dreaded Finnegans Wake. Wish me luck!

I'm going to try listing, at most, my 10 favourite albums from every year since 1963. Years with less than 10, I simply don't have that much music from. Note that these are completely subjective, biased, and opinionated!

The 60s were the decade that created music as we know it. You can argue that the 50s created rock n' roll, but without The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground, and so many others, we wouldn't the music of the day. These lists are dominated by The Beatles, partly because they're my favourites, and partly because they influenced EVERYTHING.
